Why Pyhätunturi?
8 Seasons in Lapland
Finnish Lapland invites tourists all year round, offering a variety of experiences whatever the season. The region follows the tradition of dividing the year into eight seasons. This unique way of structuring time opens doors to new experiences at all times of the year.
Experience the magic of the eight seasons
Whether you’re a fan of winter’s snowy landscapes or summer’s nightless nights, you’ll find a season in Lapland to suit you. Each of the eight seasons brings its own atmosphere and activities – come and experience their diversity on the spot!
The people of Lapland have traditionally divided the year into eight unique seasons. Here is a day of the year enriched by Lapland’s seasons – each with its own atmosphere and offering experiences to suit all tastes:
First snow Experiences (October-November)
The first snow begins to fall, lakes freeze over and nature falls into a winter hibernation. Activities include cross-country skiing on the first snow, hiking in the dry countryside, horse riding, admiring the northern lights and photography.Winter begins
The ski slopes will open in early November. Lapland offers a wide range of winter sports: downhill and cross-country skiing, trips to the Northern Lights and other experiences. The magic of Polar night (December)
The sun stays below the horizon, creating a magical blue-violet sky. The day may be dim, but the northern lights shine brightly and the snow is soft. Activities include skiing, snowshoeing, reindeer and husky safaris, snowmobiling, photography and Northern Lights tours.Frosty winter (January-February)
The ice is getting colder, the slopes are deepening, and the northern lights illuminate the quiet frosty days. Skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking and sledging are just some of the sports on offer – all the possibilities of the winter world are open to you.Bearing snow Spring (March-April)
The sun glistens on the slopes. Spring shows itself in a period of light and warm weather, and the biggest snowfall still allows for cross-country skiing on the fells even in May.Breaking up of ice Spring (May)
The snow melts, nature awakens and greenery emerges from the slush. Reindeer calves are born and wild plants grow. Activities include hiking, canoeing, frisbee golf, fishing, birdwatching and photography.Midnight sun (June-July)
The sun does not set at all, and the nocturnal period gives you the energy to live and experience the nightlife. Popular activities include cycling, SUP boarding, canoeing, hiking, trail running, horse riding, frisbee golf, fishing and boat trips.Harvest (August)
Nature is becoming eutrophic – berries and mushrooms ripen in the summer light and people gather nature’s bounty for the winter. Harvest time calls for berry picking and mushroom picking.

Responsible vacation in Pyhä – we offset your emissions locally
Responsible vacation in Pyhä – we offset your emissions locally At Visit Pyhä Cabins, we believe that every stay can make a difference. As a family-run business, we offset the emissions from your visit through sustainable forest management right here in the Pyhä region. We care for over 500 hectares of forest that captures around 1,000 tons of CO₂ each year. Using cutting-edge technology and blockchain-based tracking, we measure and verify the carbon captured – and we can even show you on a map where your emissions are being offset.
The best part? It all happens nearby. Your impact stays local, where it matters most. As a thank-you for choosing us, we offset 10 kg of CO₂ for every night you stay.
By staying with us, you're helping protect Finland’s clean air, pure waters, rich biodiversity – and yes, our snowy winters – for generations to come.
